Sophie Howell is an award-winning, New York–based filmmaker and theatre director working across film, television, and live performance. She is the founder of Alexandra Production House, where she develops, directs, and produces independent films with a focus on absurd, character-driven comedy.

Before directing her own films, Howell worked across production departments, assisting producers and directors on projects including Apple TV+’s Black Bird, Jurassic World, and I Love You Phillip Morris starring Jim Carrey. Her short films have earned multiple awards, including back-to-back Audience Choice Awards at the Nashville 48 Hour Film Project for Slow Motion Adults, which she co-wrote, and Everything Is Disconnected, which she wrote and directed. Her most recent short, The Doppelgänghair, was recently completed and is targeting the 2027 festival circuit.

Howell currently has two features in development: a feature-length adaptation of The Doppelgänghair, and Porridge, a queer coming-of-age comedy inspired by Goldilocks and the Three Bears. She also directs for the stage, most recently serving as Associate Director on the Off-Broadway production House of McQueen, starring Bridgerton’s Luke Newton.
