Sophie Howell is an award-winning New York–based filmmaker and theatre director working across film, television, and live performance. She is the founder of Alexandra Production House, where she develops, directs, and produces independent films with a focus on absurd, character-driven comedy. She most recently directed and produced the dark comedy feature film Murder Trip, and is slated to direct and produce the comedic horror film Scream Test in early 2027. In her theatre work, she most recently served as Associate Director on the Off-Broadway production House of McQueen starring Bridgerton’s Luke Newton.

Her work is grounded in years of experience on major studio and prestige productions including Jurassic World and Apple TV+’s Black Bird, as well as independent features such as I Love You Phillip Morris and Synchronic. Her short-form work has received multiple awards, including back-to-back Audience Choice Awards at the Nashville 48 Hour Film Project for Slow Motion Adults and Everything Is Disconnected, with subsequent international recognition for Ghostwriter. The Doppelgänghair is currently in post-production.

In addition to directing, Sophie is a working actor across film, television, national commercials, live comedy, and stage performance. Working across film, theatre, and performance, she brings a performance-driven directing approach grounded in clear leadership, professional production experience, and an actor’s understanding of story and emotional arc.
